Noted for its glossy look, quartz or engineered stone is among the most popular countertop materials found in many kitchens and bathrooms. Since it has a durability that is comparable to marble and granite, you don’t have to worry about the surface finish becoming degraded. Then again, it is up to you to keep it looking shiny. Here are four tips to maintain the gloss of your quartz countertop for a long time.
Clean the Quartz Surface Every Day
A quartz countertop is finished during the manufacturing process. Unless the surface has noticeable damage, it can look dull if it doesn’t get cleaned regularly. Maintain its dazzling appearance by first applying a drop of dishwashing soap on the counter, and spritz it with water from a spray bottle to dilute. Then, wipe the surfaces with a soft cloth, starting from one end and moving to the other. Continue spraying and wiping every few feet. Do this after every use of your countertop.
Polish the Surface Occasionally
Quartz can be polished and buffed on occasion to retain their shine. While you can use the appropriate commercial product and tool for this, there’s an eco-friendly way to do so. You can either buy a vinegar-based spray cleaner or make one yourself – combine 25% vinegar to 75% water, and mix in a spray bottle. Use a microfiber cloth as you spritz the solution and wipe the counter.
Consider Disinfecting
Whenever your kitchen countertop comes into contact with raw meat, poultry or seafood, make sure to clean and disinfect right after preparing them. Use a paper towel to remove any residual moisture, and then spray with an antibacterial spray cleaner to disinfect the surface. Let it stand for a few seconds before wiping from end to end.
