Avoid These Items That Can Stain Your Quartz Countertops

As a countertop material, quartz possesses a lot of advantages, some of which puts them above other types of countertops. One of the advantages of using quartz is in its non-porous surface. This means that it is stain-resistant and easier to clean, a must-have in many busy kitchen settings. While granite also has stain-resistant properties, quartz doesn’t need to be resealed once installed.

Stain-resistant, unfortunately, does not mean stain-proof, and there are still some substances that could mar the pristine finish of a quartz countertop.

Avoid Acids

Acidic liquids like vinegar are a big no-no whether you have quartz or granite countertops. Spills can be wiped away easily, but try your best to avoid letting vinegar dry on a quartz surface. The same is true for wine. Wine stains can be easily cleaned, but when you’re cooking with this ingredient along with some balsamic vinegar, you would want to clean up messes as soon as possible.

Coffee and Tea

Similar to wines and vinegars, you should never let coffee and tea spills dry on a quartz countertop. The tannins that give these drinks their distinct colors can slowly penetrate the seal of your quartz countertop. Over time, this can slowly make your counters look more aged than they actually are. Thankfully, most coffee stains are easily removed with a quick wipe of a damp cloth. For tougher stains, you may use a mild quartz and granite cleaner.

Hot Pots and Pans

When you’re cooking, always rest your hot cooking implements on trivets or pads. Constant exposure to high temperatures can cause some discoloration, which may become harder and harder to clean up.
