Made from one of the hardest minerals on earth, quartz countertops are arguably the most durable option for kitchens. They’re also some of the most eye-catching. They come in a wide variety of colors, including fire-engine red and apple green, as well as earthy browns, blacks, and creams, with sparkles and veining for the look of granite or marble. But unlike natural-stone slabs, which are mined, these slabs are engineered in a factory. Their primary ingredient is ground quartz (about 94 percent), combined with polyester resins to bind it and pigments to give it color. For some designs, small amounts of recycled glass or metallic flecks are added to the mix. The resins also help make these counters stain and scratch resistant—and nonporous, so they never need to be sealed. Some of the benefits of Quartz is that it survives a gauntlet of spills, hot pots, knives, and more with top scores, and it doesn’t have to be sealed for stain protection. It’s waterproof so it can be paired with an undermount sink.

I'd give Granite Works six stars if it was an option. We updated the look of our kitchen by replacing dark granite countertops with a bright Cambria quartz--the cabinets and wall tile remained. We're astonished the crew removed the old counters without any of the wall tile breaking! Once we settled on our choice, the ordering, measuring and installation took a bit less than two weeks. Schedules were kept, and everyone we dealt with was efficient, quite punctual, and left everything basically neat. However, later in the day after the install, we found a small but obvious flaw in the stone in one spot that we felt needed to be addressed. Marco, who came to check it out, and Bruno agreed. Love, Love, Love this place!! First off, when I was searching for a company to do granite countertops for our kitchen, I reached out to several providers on Yelp. Granite Works was one of the first to respond, literally within a matter of hours. I am a busy person and didn't have time to go to their store in Rockville so I was able to do just about everything (including digitally sign the contract) over the internet. They sent over a great guy to do the measurements, and he even brought two samples of granite that my wife and I were considering. I would have liked to be able to write some sort of review for them because I heard they did good work. I was referred to them to have new counters installed in my kitchen. We went to their show room and my wife picked out a product she liked. They came and measured my kitchen counters, then nothing. A month later and we never heard anything from them. Text messages, e-mails, and phone calls have all gone unanswered. Never got a quote of any sort or any indication they were interested in doing the work.
