Kitchen remodeling requires thorough planning. One of the first things you need to accomplish when starting this project is to take measurements for new cabinets. Many people do not find this step exciting, but it is essential to the heart of your home’s appeal and functionality. You only need simple tools and a little research to get accurate measurements.
Read on to learn more.
Measuring the Width of the Space
You will need a tape measure, level and a pencil or pen to take measurements for your new kitchen cabinets. Use a tape measure to determine the distance between the two outside walls of your kitchen. Then, transfer this measurement to a piece of paper, and label it as the width.
Measuring the Height of the Space
Measure the distance between the floor and ceiling using your tape measure. Take a level to make a straight line on the wall at this height. Next, use your table measure to figure out the distance between this line and the top of your existing cabinets or other obstructions that might be in the way. Lastly, record this measurement, and label it accordingly.
Measuring the Depth of the Space
Use a tape measure to determine the distance between the front of your current cabinets and the back wall of your kitchen. Label this measurement as the depth of your new cabinets.
